City Of Atlanta Water Fun Facts
Not really and not fun! If you are a buyer considering purchasing in the Metro Atlanta area- that's great and we are happy to find you a property! However, there is something you should know. It doesn't happen every time, but maybe 1/10 times the City Of Atlanta will turn the water off earlier than was anticipated and YIKES- no water upon move in! And sometimes for DAYS!!!
So to avoid this little glitch- here is my tip. Negotiate upon purchase that the seller leave water on for 7 days (there can be some monetary compensation if needed, but well worth it. (our seller said they would leave it on, but it didn't happen and so BOOM- water was shut off on day of close) - Don't trust that the seller or their agent WILL do it, make sure it's in writing and then YOU- as the buyer should call the City to verify WHEN water is being transferred with NO shut-off- that is preferred.
So negotiate a 7 day seller keeps water on- then make sure to turn in ALL necessary documents (IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO GO IN PERSON- THIS WAY YOU MAKE SURE IT"s RECEIVED) Verify that the City has received documents. You will talk to a different person every time and everyone says - We received and water "SHOULD" be on tomorrow or in 3 days, but it doesn't always happen that way and no one seems to care if you have no water and cannot move into your new place.
Hope that helps and while buying in ATLANTA is AWESOME and we would love to help!! Make sure you avoid some of the disasters with the city by following these couple of tips....Happy Buying!
